Well one night the band was playing at a club, that for
some reason wouldn't put our name (whatever it was I forget) on the sign (on wheels) out in front of the building.
It was a very slow night , it was snowing I think, and our bassist Ken came across the
lettering for the sign, and before anyone knew it he had changed the sign from:
"Live Music Wed. thru Sat.
Charburgers
Frosty Mugs"
To: "Live Music Wed. thru Sat.
The Charburgers
featuring
Frosty Mugs"
Well the name stuck like glue, even when we wanted to change it for something less goofy.
It just wasn't meant to be, we finally realized that around Tulsa we would always be "The Charburgers" and 20 years later
it's still funny to see the reaction of somebody hearing it for the first time.
I always think of one afternoon I was setting up at one of
our usual gigs, (which was on the highway to one of the area lakes) when I overheard a customer order 3 with cheese and fries,
and the waitress asked him what he was talking about. The man replied "your sign out front says
The Charburgers are back" and without a thought the girl responded matter of factly
"THAT'S THE NAME OF THE BAND"
It just goes to show , that if you say anything enough it sounds normal.
